Holy Week 2015: St. John the Baptist - Tampa, FL
Christos Anesti!
Christ is Risen!
St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church of Tampa is a parish of about 400 families. And one of the best things about our parish is that we have MANY young families. Over 100 children participated in our Palm Sunday procession. We had many young girls portray the role of the 10 Maidens (at the Bridegroom Services) and as the Myrrh-bearers on Good Friday Evening and at the Anastasi. A Good Friday retreat was held all day with nearly 100 children in attendance. One of the highlights of the week was an Archpastoral Visit by Metropolitan Alexios, who presided over the Bridegroom Service of Holy Tuesday evening. Another highlight was an answer to prayer—last year, we prayed over two parents whose twin babies were clinging to life in intensive care. This year, these parents came with their healthy one year old twins and we offered a prayer of thanksgiving over them. Our choir and chanters were fanstastic all week, and our forty two altar boys were excellent as always.
Fr. Stavros Akrotirianakis serves as the Proistamenos of St. John.
