The Philoptochos has been working with social workers in the Cleveland Heights school sytem in order to offer service to the local community. At the May 29 meeting of the Philoptochos Board, a proposal was approved to sponsor childen from the Fairfax Elementary School so they might attend certain local camps, etc. It will provide six students with $100 each to attend Camp Invention, one student with $!50 to attend woodworking camp and gardening camp, one family of six children with pool passes for the summer, and three students with the funds to attend a "Fun Camp" program.

Mothers' Day at the Shelter

We would like to thank everyone that helped to make the shelter party today so wonderful!  Many moms personally thanked us for coming and one mom said we “made” her mother’s day!  Karen King from the shelter urged us to “keep on coming back”.  Weren’t those smiles on the children’s faces wonderful?

We had 18 parishioners take time from their mother’s day celebration to come:  Penny and Peter Zale and their daughters, Elizabeth and Charlotte, Anna and Dick Warren, Chris Tartara, Irene Theodore, Peter Poulos and his daughter, Lauren and girlfriend, Patti, Sia Papouras, Maria Gorodetskov, and Maria and Harry Cashy and 3 of their children, Catherine, George and Johnny.

We served pastichio, Caesar salad, butter and rolls, strawberries and cake.  The moms each received a gift bag and the children had a Polaroid picture taken and decorated picture frames to give to their moms.  There were about 50 people from the shelter there.

I would also like to thank those people that could not make it to the party, but offered monetary support.  Your donations went towards the mothers’ gifts – soap, body cream, perfume and a comb.

THANK YOU ALL.

Louisiana Mission Trip
Philoptochos organized a team to work in the hurricane-ravaged areas of Louisiana for one week.   more...

Team members stand near the spot where the levee failed, causing Ward 9 to be flooded.

One group worked at this site, where four houses were just getting started,

Another group worked on the site of 3 homes near completion.

The youngest group worked on landscaping homes already completed.

Matthew Warren nails siding pieces to their frames.

CWRU student Connie Stamoolis assists someone installing siding.

Did you really expect us to work 24/7?
